Many legal regimes in the world operate with different languages. Those are sometimes on equal footing, sometimes not; they are sometimes identical with the language on the street sometimes not. Law and language are therefore in a relation that may differ from one legal regime to the other. These various relationships between law and language within a legal regime may play a major role when it comes to translating statutes, case law or doctrinal works in a language, which is not one of such legal regime (for instance English). Is the relationship to this “ex-ogenous” language different according to the endogenous relationship between law and language ?
This international explanatory workshop will focus on various aspects with colleagues from abroad and professors from the University of Fribourg.
