Generative AI builds on an infrastructure of biometric data collection and face recognition, with consequences ranging from identity fraud to mass surveillance and novel dynamics of warfare. Dr. Donovan examines how these developments are collected and enable the proliferation of "AI slop". She shows how inadequate protection of biometric data enables harms that impact individuals as well as political and civic life more broadly.
