The Sail and Explore Association is a Swiss based NGO, committed to marine conservation by combining sailing, science and education in order to find solutions and strengthen awareness for the protection of our oceans. One of the aims is to contribute to the protection of the marine environment from plastic pollution.

Our speaker, Dr. Roman Lehner, is a biochemist at the Adolphe Merkle Institute, and is involved in studying the effects of nano- and microplastics on human intestinal cells.

He also conducts sailing expeditions with citizen scientists to collect microplastic data to gain a better understanding of the occurrence, distribution and impact of ocean plastics, to support local organizations and to sensitize and educate people about the global microplastic pollution.

He also spent several years as a scientific guide on marine biological excursions and sailing trips.
