DESCRIPTION:A “magic mirror” is a perspective that preserves certain properties of a problem and changes other ones, so as to reduce the problem to a simpler one. We will first show how the problem of proving lower bounds on certain conformal moduli is a running theme in the study of conformal groups and dynamical systems. Then we introduce the concept of a modular lamination, and briefly describe how it can be used as a magic mirror to analyze the failure of lower bounds for these moduli, and show that such a failure would lead to a contradiction.
