DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will present some of the rich interplay between complex algebraic geometry and low-dimensional topology, as it occurs when studying the fundamental groups of algebraic varieties (such as complements of hyperplane arrangements) and 3-dimensional manifolds. The bridge between the two settings is provided by the Alexander polynomial and the cohomology jump loci of those space. \n\n
