DESCRIPTION:I will review the 19th century  classical invariant theory of Cayley and Sylvester, and present a solution of an outstanding open problem concerning binary sextics. Both the subject and the problem are elementary - the talk should be accessible to undergraduate maths or physics students. This is joint work with Roger Penrose.\n\n
