DESCRIPTION:The Cremona group in two variables is the group of all birational\ntransformations of the affine plane ; an element of this group is a transformation\nof the plane which is defined by rational formulae in the affine variables (X,Y).\nI shall describe the main properties of this group, and compare it to classical\ntransformation groups, like group of matrices or groups of diffeomorphisms.
