DESCRIPTION:Disinformation is widely seen as a growing challenge for democracy. But who is most vulnerable to it, and what protects people from misleading claims? Drawing on a 2026 survey in Switzerland, this talk examines how citizens perceive disinformation, where they encounter it, whom they hold responsible, and how they verify uncertain information. It then focuses on disinformative conspiracy claims as a test case for vulnerability. The findings show that news deprivation is a central risk factor: people with little exposure to professional journalism are more susceptible to such claims, while journalistic news repertoires and verification competence support democratic resilience.
