DESCRIPTION:Migration from Southeast to Western Europe has profoundly shaped societies in both regions over the second half of the twentieth century. The international conference "From Exile to Diaspora" asks how, when, and under what conditions diasporic communities emerged from experiences of political exile, displacement, and migration, placing Southeast European intellectuals and political activists at the center as mediators, organizers, and producers of knowledge. Across five panels and an evening lecture by Prof. Nicole Immig (Giessen), the conference addresses both conceptual questions around "exile" and "diaspora" and the still under-researched history of Southeast European exile and diaspora in Switzerland.
