From random tilings to Maximal Surfaces in Minkowski Space R^{2,1}

Random tilings reveal striking connections between probability and geometry. This talk explores these connections through geometric objects called t-embeddings, which provide a new way to study the large-scale behavior of random tilings. For lozenge tilings of regular hexagons, we show how these objects approach smooth surfaces in Minkowski space.
