This conference forms part of the SNSF PRIMA project “Portraying Medieval Women: The Materiality of Female Images and Art Patronage in the 'Latin' Ruled East (12th–15th centuries)”. It explores how gender was represented and constructed through visual and material culture in premodern societies, bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives from art history, history, archaeology, religious studies, gender studies, and anthropology.
