Summary: As environmental and climatic transformations progressively erode the habitability of many places, my research explores how such losses are negotiated through trajectories of (im)mobility. Drawing on research conducted in contrasting contexts (such as the Ganges delta in India, the lowlands of Ethiopia, and the coastal areas of Senegal), I analyse how erosion, drought, environmental degradation and social inequalities are reshaping the possibilities of staying, leaving or moving. I seek to develop a relational conception of habitability, reveal (im)mobilities that are often invisible in standard statistical categories, and help open up new avenues for rethinking mobility in the Anthropocene at the intersection of social justice, adaptation and risk governance.
